DStv to launch new channel mid-December

MultiChoice plans to launch a new channel called BBC UKTV on its satellite TV service DStv in mid-December, giving customers access to a variety of natural history, comedy, soap operas, and children’s shows.

The new channel will be available on channel 134 for DStv Family, Access, and EasyView subscribers starting Thursday, December 15, 2022.

“We have strengthened our partnerships, which has, in turn, strengthened our content offering, therefore, we are extremely excited to introduce BBC UKTV to our viewers,” MultiChoice’s executive head of general entertainment channels, Georginah Machiridza, said.

BBC UKTV becomes the sixth BBC Studio channel to be available on DStv, joining BBC Earth, BBC Brit, BBC Lifestyle, CBeebies, and BBC World News.

It will air series such as the long-running sitcom My Family, the British hospital soap Doctors, and Top Gear.

Starting with season one, My Family will air on weekdays at 06:00 and 19:30, while Doctors will air at 19:00.

Beginning with Season 19, BBC UKTV will air Top Gear at 20:00 during the week and 18:30 on Sundays.

Every day at 09:00 and 15:00 on weekdays, viewers can watch a variety of BBC natural history shows.

Every morning between 06:30 and 09:00, children’s programming for ages 0 to 12 will air.

Strictly Come Dancing, Frozen Planet II, Come Dine With Me South Africa, and Homegrown Tastes South Africa will continue to air on DStv’s existing BBC Studios channels.

Surprisingly, Openview announced that BCC UKTV would be added to its channel lineup on October 18, 2022. The launch, however, was postponed at the last minute by the eMedia-owned broadcaster.

“We confirm that we planned to launch the BBC UKTV channel on Openview on 18 October,” Openview told MyBroadband.

“We are disappointed to announce that the much-anticipated launch had to be postponed. We are working on finalising details for the channel.”
