How to activate 1GB data for N204 on 9mobile

by Johnson Daniel

9mobile has one of the cheapest data plans around which was the 1GB data plan for N200. I said “was” because it’s no longer so as the price of the plan has been changed just recently.

The 1GB data plan on 9mobile which cost just N200 was said to be one of the cheapest and cost-efficient data plan in the country as it supported all apps but ever since the 1st of February, 2020, the price of the ‘special data plan’ as it is being called is no longer the same as it has gone up to N204.

Last month, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTONS) said it will start implementing the country’s new 7.5% Value Added Tax (VAT) increase from Saturday, February 1 2020. With this VAT (2.4%) increment as directed by the Federal Government 9mobile has also implemented it on data purchase and this is why the price of the special data plan has gone up by approximately N4.80.

This also means that if you want to buy a N1000 data plan, you won’t pay N1000 but N1024, the same goes for a N2000 plan. Instead of paying N2000 on 9mobile, you will pay N2048. After speaking with their customer care yesterday, I believe that the VAT increase affects all prices of their data plans.

How to activate 1GB for N204

It’s still the same as before, you have to check if you are eligible to purchase the plan. First and foremost, dial ∗929∗10# and if you’re told,

Dear Customer, your request was not successful due to insufficient balance. Please recharge and try again.

Recharge your line and make sure to have at least N204.80 and redial the code once more.

You don’t have to worry any longer as I have written down an article on how to become eligible for this special data plan. Lastly, the data is valid for the same 3 days upon activation and to check your data balance, simply dial ∗228#.

Non-9mobile users reading this article right now shouldn’t feel left out, MTN, Airtel and GLO has the right plan to suit you.
