According to the recent data released, the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) for July 2020, shows that MTN gained 1.69 million data subscribers while Airtel edged out Glo in terms of data subscriber numbers, as the telco added 1.49 million subscribers over the indigenous brand.
In June 2020, reports showed that Glo overtook Airtel in the list for the number of data subscribers, and this happened for the first time in years. Also, for the first time in some years, Airtel has overtaken Globacom to become the telecom operator having the second-highest data subscriber base in the country behind MTN.
From the same reports provided by NCC, 9mobile continues its steady decline, as a total of 16,000 subscribers dumped the network for others when it fell from 7.26 million subscribers to 7.10 million within the same period.
The increase in the number of data subscribers in MTN comes as no surprise to many in the country. MTN keeps on bringing new data plans & more data offers to attract customers to use their network, as for 9mobile, there are no current data bundle plans provided on the ground, same with Glo and Airtel.
Hopefully, things will get better, and the competition will become more fierce as the lack of competition goes to show that the telco operators have nothing to offer to its customers.
