MultiChoice set to reduce DStv subscription fees in East Africa

by Johnson Daniel

The South-African owned TV operator and the parent to both DStv and GOtv has announced its plans to reduce DStv subscription fee in the eastern part of Africa. MultiChoice revealed that on the 1st of September, 2019, there will be a reduction in monthly fees for DStv consumers in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Mozambique.DSTVnGOTV

A representative of the MultiChoice stated that not all these countries will have the same price reduction changes because each country has different cost structures influenced by local dynamics such as inflation, content costs, foreign exchange rates, local taxes, and overheads required for each business.

In Mozambique, prices of DStv Portuguese packages including DStv Bue, DStv Grande+, DStv Grande, and DStv Fácil will be reduced. However, DStv Business, as well as GOtv Plus and GOtv Lite subscription fees will be increased. For instance, Ugandan subscribers will get a 30% reduction whilst Kenyan subscribers will witness 5% to up to almost 37% price reduction.

There is no report suggesting that this reduction in the DStv fee will spread throughout the rest of Africa as MultiChoice has not said anything concerning that. However, we can keep our fingers crossed to see if it turns out positive for us.
