Two new smartphones have recently joined the Poco lineup. One introduces the series’ first 144Hz display and is a gaming enthusiast, while the other attempts to be an all-rounder with its own “first” – the first OIS camera on a Poco phone.
Poco X4 GT
The Poco X4 GT arrives with a mid-range chipset born in TSMC’s 5nm fabs with four Cortex-A78 cores and a new Mali-G610 MC6 GPU – Dimensity 8100. It uses LiquidCool Technology 2.0 for heat management with a vapor chamber that is 32% larger than on the X3 GT, plus there are now 7 layers of graphite. The chipset is paired with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
The device’s gaming enthusiasm is evident in its touch sampling rate of 270Hz. The device is built on a 6.6″ LCD with 1,080 x 2,460px resolution (20.5:9) and it can render 1 billion colors (it supports Dolby Vision as well). Peak brightness is 650 nits (500 nits typical) and the panel uses DC dimming. Also, it is guarded by Gorilla Glass 5 (the X3 GT had Victus).
The GT model is equipped with a 64MP camera with a larger sensor than last year (1/1.72”, 0.8µm native pixels, 1.6µm with binning). It is joined by an 8MP 120° ultra-wide-angle cam (1.12µm), plus a 2MP macro camera. On the front is a 20MP selfie camera (1/3.06”, 1.0µm).
There’s no better joy than seeing a 5,080 mAh battery on the GT, a battery big enough to binge videos for 22 hours straight. The large-sized battery charges at 67W with the included power adapter. A full 0-100% charge takes 46 minutes.
Other things to take note of are the 3.5mm headphone jack, side-mounted fingerprint reader, X-axis linear motor, Wireless connectivity that includes 5G, of course, Wi-Fi 6 (ax), Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and there is even an IR blaster.
The Poco X4 GT will become available on June 27 (Monday) through select retailers, including the official Poco online store. Between June 27 and July 7 there will be an early bird discount of €80 on the regular prices of €380 for an 8/128GB unit and €430 for an 8/256GB phone. More retailers will offer the X4 GT soon.
Poco F4
The F4 is the first in the family to include Optical Image Stabilization, like its predecessor (OIS). Aside from that, the main camera is nothing special, with its 1/2″ sensor (0.7m pixels, 1.4m with binning) and f/1.8 aperture. It is joined on the back by an 8MP ultra-wide (119°) and 2MP macro modules, as well as a 20MP selfie camera, as it is on the X4 GT.
The display is a 6.67″ AMOLED (Samsung E4) with a 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling rate. It has 1,080 x 2,400px resolution (20:9) and a peak brightness of 1,300 nits (900 nits typical). This is an HDR10+ display that now also supports Dolby Vision. Physical protection is handled by Gorilla Glass 5. Poco claims pro-grade color tuning with the TrueColor feature, but it didn’t supply any deltaE numbers.
The battery has essentially the same capacity as the F3, 4,500mAh. However, the charge rating has been doubled to 67W (adapter included), up from 33W. This has reduced the full 0-100% charge time from 52 minutes down to 38 minutes.
The Poco F4 will be available soon in two configurations. The 6/128GB option will cost €400, while the 8/256GB one will be €450. Note that there between June 27 (Monday) and July 7 there will be an early bird discount of €50 for both versions. The phone will be available from June 27 in select retailers and will expand to new stores soon.
