Twitter Blue to relaunch with Gold, Grey & Blue checkmarks in December

Not long after suspending the Twitter Blue service, Elon Musk announced that the service will be relaunched on Friday, December 2, 2022. The updated service will include distinct checkmarks for each entity.

Musk was chastised earlier this month for allowing bogus accounts to impersonate companies, individuals, and other entities on Twitter. Several bogus verified Twitter Blue accounts wreaked havoc on the social media platform. One user, impersonating Eli Lilly, tweeted that the company will provide free insulin to its customers, causing the company’s stock to fall 5% in morning trading on Friday.

“Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week,” Elon said in a tweet. He added, “Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates.”

Musk deemed the change “painful but necessary.”

According to a recent tweet, Elon Musk has set an $8 subscription fee for Twitter Blue, which will remain the same when the service relaunches in December.
